UFC 2010 To Use Online Code System

Today Pastapadre has confirmed rumors that UFC 2010 will require a unique pass code from users to play online, similar to the EA Sports Online Pass. Codes will be issued with each copy of UFC 2010 and are one-time-use only, meaning second-hand owners or those renting the game will have to purchase their own code if they wish to play online.

“With the news no longer able to be concealed THQ has released a statement which can be found in full at Destructoid. The statement contains some odd wording including “additional” and “second-time buyers” which raised my antenna that we may not know the true extent of this code program yet. According to the statement the cost will be $5 but no mention of a trial period is made which likely means none will be offered.”

This code system seems to be gaining steam, as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and now THQ are utilizing it in their upcoming video game releases. While becoming popular in development circles, the code system has become increasingly more scrutinized by gamers, particularly in THQ’s case as their hand was forced to reveal the information, leading to speculation that many gamers were going to be surprised upon release.
