UFC 2010 Selling Worse Than Anticipated?
It’s no secret by now that UFC 2010 isn’t perfect, but could the video game really be selling significantly less than initially estimated? According to a new story on Gamasutra.com, that could well be the case.
Citing quotes from an analyst as well as some additional evidence backing the claims such as Amazon.com’s drastic price drop, the article discusses how UFC Undisputed 2010 is “tracking below our expectations at retail,” and speculates some of the possible reasons why.
“Sebastian noted that factors directly related to Undisputed don’t explain the game’s poor showing: it has a strong reputation based on the reception of UFC Undisputed 2009, which exceeded 3.5 million units; it has extremely positive reviews, with an average Metacritic score of 85; and UFC itself is doing well. Thus, he postulates that other recent releases like Rockstar San Diego’s Red Dead Redemption could be ‘adding some competitive pressure.’”
A look at the recent game sales charts in the UK seems to reinforce that idea, with Red Dead Redemption holding off THQ’s MMA video game for the top spot. Whatever the actual case may be, UFC 2010 must have had some lofty goals if it is indeed underperforming.
