UFC 2010 Sales Fall Far Short of its Predecessor

It’s common knowledge by now that UFC 2010 has been struggling financially, but could THQ’s latest MMA video game really be massively underselling numbers set last year by UFC 2009?

UFC 2010 Sales Fall Far Short of its Predecessor

A new article by Pastapadre.com compares the official NPD numbers for both the 2009 and 2010 versions of the UFC Undisputed series and the results are truly shocking. Not only is UFC 2010 doing poorly in its own right, but there is now definitive proof it has taken a giant leap backwards from UFC 2009.

“In May UFC 2010 sold 222,100 copies on the 360 and 192,300 on the PS3 for a total of 414,400 coming in 4th and 5th place respectively. Not terrible numbers at first glance but they are shockingly low when compared with the previous iteration. UFC 2009 sold 679,600 on the 360 and 334,400 on the PS3 for a total of 1,014,000 in its first month.”

“UFC 2010′s combined sales of the 360 and PS3 were only 61% of what UFC 2009 opened with on the 360 alone.”

The story goes on to speculate some of the reasons why UFC 2010 has flopped the way it has, pointing to the video game’s buggy release and lack of a yearly roster overhaul to keep fans enticed. Whatever the case may be, THQ has dropped the ball and the UFC cannot be thrilled, especially if EA MMA is as successful as many think it will be.
